Kurt Steidl was 4 of 6 from beyond the arc, totaling a career-high 19 points to lead Vermont to a 73-61 win over Sonoma State at the Golden Gate Challenge Saturday night.

Vermont made 64.7 percent of its 3-point shots. Clancy Rugg had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Catamounts. Candon Rusin added 17 points.

Vermont (3-6), which lost to San Francisco 72-61 in this tournament Friday night, took a 3-1 lead on a Sandro Carissimo 3-point shot and never looked back, taking a 39-27 advantage into the break. Carissimo opened the second period with another 3-pointer and the Catamounts stretched their lead to 61-43 at the midway point of the second period.

Sonoma State (1-4), which lost to Illinois State 75-58 here Friday night, made a charge, closing to 63-56 with 2:36 remaining, but could get no closer.

James Davis had 18 points for the Seawolves.
