Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas is expected to miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

Thomas was hurt on the final play of the third quarter during Sunday's game against Carolina. He was in crutches with a walking boot after the 20-16 loss.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel cited a team source as saying Thomas has a torn left ankle ligament that won't require surgery.

It's the second straight year that Thomas will likely have his season cut short. He missed the final two games in 2013 because of a knee injury.

Thomas, who has shared time in the Miami backfield with Lamar Miller, has rushed for 279 yards with a team-best three touchdowns on 77 carries in 11 games this season.
