The Colts have signed running back Chris Rainey to the active roster.

The 5-foot-9, 198-pound back played previously with Pittsburgh, which took Rainey in the fifth round of the 2012 draft.

Last season, Rainey played in all 16 games, rushing 26 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns while catching 14 passes for 60 yards. He also averaged 26.5 yards on kickoff returns.

Rainey started 19 of 52 games at the University of Florida, where he finished ninth on the school's career rushing list with 2,464 yards.

Wednesday's move is the Colts' latest attempt to shore up the offense since top receiver Reggie Wayne went out with a season-ending injury.
