Bears lose Cutler to ankle injury

Chicago, IL ( - Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler left Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions with a left ankle injury.

Cutler was getting hit all day and appeared to be playing through injury for much of the second half.

With Chicago trailing by eight points after Detroit scored a touchdown with 2:22 to play, Josh McCown took over under center and led the Bears to a touchdown as Brandon Marshall caught a score from 11 yards out.

The two-point conversion, though, failed and the Bears lost the game, 21-19, to fall a game back of the Lions for first place in the NFC North.

"He was rolled up on in the second quarter and was taped up at halftime," said Chicago head coach Marc Trestman. "I didn't want to take him out unless he failed the job. At the end I took him out because I knew he'd have to run around in the two-minute drill."

Cutler finished the game 21-for-40 for 250 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Cutler had missed last Monday's win against the Packers with a torn left groin muscle he suffered on Oct. 20 against the Redskins. McCown filled in admirably in that game that saw the Bears take a 27-20 win in Green Bay.
