Danuel House had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the Houston Cougars 76-70 win over the Texas State Bobcats Friday night in the season-opener for both teams.

TaShawn Thomas added 22 points and six rebounds, and L.J. Rose chipped in 11 points and six assists to lead the Cougars (1-0), which shot 52 percent from the field and hit on 6 of 14 from behind the arc.

Thomas finished 10 of 15 shooting for Houston, while House hit 3 of 5 from behind the arc.

Emani Grant scored 19 points on 9 of 11 shooting, and Joel Wright chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds for the Bobcats (0-1).

The Bobcats had cut the lead to 73-70 in the final minute, but House put the game away for Houston, nailing a 3-pointer with 22 seconds to push the lead to six.
