Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings have reportedly placed forward Jordin Tootoo on waivers.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Red Wings general manager told the paper of the move. If Tootoo clears waivers, he will be assigned to the club's American Hockey league affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Tootoo has a minus-4 and failed to register a point in eight games this season. In 42 games last year, his first season with Detroit, he had only three goals and five assists.

He reportedly has two years and $3.8 million left on his current contract and the re-assignment to Grand Rapids would give the Red Wings nearly $1 million in cap space.
