Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness to go on trial on tax evasion charges in Germany

MUNICH – Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness will go on trial in March on tax evasion charges.

The state court in Munich says judges have decided to send the case to trial. Proceedings are scheduled to start March 10.

Prosecutors filed the charges in July — months after Hoeness reported himself to authorities over a previously undeclared Swiss bank account. News of the case against Hoeness, one of the most prominent figures in German soccer, emerged in April.

Munich prosecutors have declined to comment on details of the indictment, citing tax secrecy laws, and Monday's court statement said officials there also can't give details.
