Metairie, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Saints activated linebacker Jonathan Vilma from injured reserve on Saturday.

Vilma was placed on short-term IR following arthroscopic knee surgery in August.

The 31-year-old Vilma, best known for receiving a year-long suspension from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that was later rescinded for his role in the Saints' purported bounty scandal, had 37 tackles, one sack and an interception in 11 games (10 starts) last season.

The Saints play at the New York Jets on Sunday. Ironically, Vilma played the first four seasons of his career with the Jets.

New Orleans waived cornerback Chris Carr and downgraded defensive end Tyrunn Walker (knee) from questionable to out for Sunday's game.
