Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings activated center Darren Helm from injured reserve prior to Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.

The team also announced that Helm will play on the fourth line for Saturday's matchup. It will mark only the second regular-season game the oft-injured 26- year-old has participated in over the last 18 months

Helm missed nearly the entire lockout-shortened 2013 season with back problems and sustained a groin injury during training camp.

The defensive-minded forward has totaled 32 goals and 51 assists over 249 career NHL games, all with Detroit.

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson was moved to long-term IR to make room for Helm on the active roster. The native Swede has been sidelined since Oct. 19 with a shoulder injury and is expected to miss approximately 2-to-3 weeks.
