Naples, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Napoli scored twice in the span of five first-half minutes on Saturday and held out to earn a 2-1 victory over Catania at the Stadio San Paolo.
Coming off a 2-1 victory against Fiorentina in midweek, Rafa Benitez's side was on the front foot early on and grabbed the lead just 15 minutes into proceedings when Jose Callejon fired one home.
Just five minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage through a tally by Marek Hamsek. But Catania pulled one back in the 25th minute via a goal by Lucas Castro to make it a one-goal affair at the break.
In the second half, Catania sent numbers forward looking for an equalizer, but had trouble keeping the ball as Napoli still created the better scoring chances in the second 45 minutes and held on for the victory.
The result pulls Napoli within two points of league-leaders Roma, who will face Torino on Sunday, while Catania remains in 19th place in Serie A with just one win this campaign.
After falling to Napoli last Wednesday, Fiorentina rebounded nicely on Saturday by posting a comfortable 2-0 victory over AC Milan at the San Siro. Juan Vargas opened the scoring in the 27th minutes and the visitors put the game away 17 minutes from time through Borja Valero.
Fiorentina improves to 21 points from 11 matches, while AC Milan continues to struggle in league play, sitting in 10th place with 12 points.
In Saturday's final Serie A fixture, Paul Pogba's 77th minute tally was enough to lift Juventus to a 1-0 win over Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini as the Old Lady earned its third consecutive win in league play.
