Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders and defenseman Radek Martinek agreed to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

No financial terms were disclosed, but Newsday reported the pact is worth $600,000.

The 37-year old native of the Czech Republic has spent 10 of his 11 NHL seasons on the Island, racking up 25 goals and 107 points in 473 regular season appearances. Martinek had a brief stay with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2011-12 where he scored one goal in seven games.

His signing was key for a defensive corps which has lost veteran Lubomir Visnovsky for the time being while he recovers from a concussion.

Last season, Martinek was limited to three goals in 13 contests.
