The Detroit Lions have released tight end Tony Scheffler, who missed the last two games with concussion-related problems.

The Lions signed tackle Barry Richardson in a corresponding move. Richardson played last season with the St. Louis Rams, starting all 16 games.

In four seasons with Detroit, Scheffler played in 50 games, catching 120 passes for 1,311 yards and eight touchdowns.

Richardson arrives after Detroit's offensive line was banged up in a 27-24 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. Starting offensive tackles Riley Reiff and Corey Hilliard went down with hamstring and knee injuries, respectively. Reiff was able to return to the game.

A text message was sent to Scheffler seeking comment.
