Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall, who was taken off the ice on a stretcher Thursday night after being hit into the boards by Avalanche forward Cody McLeod, is being listed as day-to-day with a mild concussion, according to Red Wings GM Ken Holland as reported by MLive.com.
Kronwall was hit from behind by McLeod 2:13 into the first period of Thursday's 4-2 Red Wings win over the Avalanche in Detroit. Kronwall was on his knees at the time and McLeod drove Kronwall's face into the top of the boards. Aside from the concusison, Kronwall suffered cuts on his ear.
McLeod received a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct penalty, resulting in his ejection from the game. He will have an in-person hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Tuesday at the league headquarters in New York. The league offers in-person hearings to players who could face a suspension of more than five games.
