Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been medically cleared to play, agent Drew Rosenhaus told FOX Sports NFL Insider Alex Marvez.

Gronkowski, who had offseason surgery on his back and forearm, is expected to make his season debut Sunday against the Jets.

The star tight end will give the Patriots' passing game a much-needed boost. Gronkowski, who has been named to two Pro Bowls, had 11 touchdowns and 55 receptions in 11 games last season.

Despite his absence, the Patriots have gotten off to a hot start, leading the AFC East with a 5-1 record.
