Moscow, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - Highest-standing seed Roberta Vinci and Russian crowd favorite Svetlana Kuznetsova moved into the quarterfinals, while Muscovite Maria Kirilenko went by way of the upset Wednesday at Kremlin Cup indoor tennis event.

The Italian Vinci overcame Russian Elena Vesnina 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, while the two- time Grand Slam champion Kuznetsova handled Swedish qualifier Sofia Arvidsson 6-2, 7-5 at Olympic Stadium. Vinci and Kuznetsova will do battle in Friday's quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the third-seeded and 2010 Moscow runner-up Kirilenko succumbed to fellow Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-3.

Another second-round upset came when Russian wild card Alisa Kleybanova took out sixth-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

A final opening-round affair saw seventh-seeded former U.S. Open champ Samantha Stosur erase Estonian and 2011 Moscow runner-up Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-1. Stosur is fresh off her title in Osaka, Japan.

The winner of this $797,707 tournament will receive $132,470.
