Terry Baggett's name might not command the reverence shown to Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis in Army football lore. But Baggett sure did earn his spot in the record book.
The junior became the first player in the 123-year history of the Black Knights' program to rush for 300 yards when he went for 304 in a 50-25 win over Eastern Michigan. His total Saturday represented one-third of his 935 career yards.
"Knowing all the people that have been here before me, it hasn't really sunk in yet," Baggett said. "I'm just happy we won the game and I could be out there with my brothers going as hard as we could every single play."
Baggett had 191 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in his first two years at Army. His 2012 season ended when he broke a kneecap in the second game.
Baggett ran for 96 yards on nine carries against then-No. 5 Stanford last month, then went for 125 against Wake Forest and 143 more against Louisiana Tech.
Boston College held him to 39 yards on 10 runs before he broke loose against an Eastern Michigan team that's 122nd out of 125 FBS teams in rushing defense.
He had touchdowns of 4, 67, 34 and 96 yards running behind an offensive line that includes two two-year starters and a three-year starter in center Ryan Powis.
It was the first 300-yard rushing performance in the FBS since Temple's Montel Harris and West Virginia's Tavon Austin both did it Nov. 17, 2012.
Army finished with 513 yards rushing and moved from fourth to first nationally at 352 yards a game.

IF YOU THOUGHT BAGGETT WAS GOOD: Octavias McKoy of Division III Western Connecticut had the best rushing day in the NCAA this season when he rolled up 372 yards against Massachusetts Maritime. McKoy's team still lost, 54-53. The junior carried 42 times, scored five touchdowns and is now averaging 175 yards a game.

HUT-HUT, OVER AND OVER: UNLV ran 113 offensive plays — 41 more than its average — in its 39-37 victory over Hawaii. The number of plays set a school and Mountain West Conference record and was two short of the NCAA record of 115 by Northwestern in an overtime loss to Auburn in the 2010 Outback Bowl and matched by Houston in a loss to Louisiana Tech last season.
Of the Rebels' 17 offensive series, six lasted at least 10 plays. UNLV also held a 15-minute advantage in time of possession.

NICE START, FRESHMAN: Auburn's Jeremy Johnson had a smashing college debut, completing 17 of 21 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-3 win over Western Carolina of the FCS. Johnson started in place of the injured Nick Marshall, and the Tigers finished with a school-record 712 total yards. The 6-foot-5, 219-pound Johnson was Alabama's Mr. Football in 2012 and four-star recruit by Rivals.

MR. CONSISTENCY: Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro hauled in nine passes in the Red Raiders' win over Iowa State and now has caught at least eight balls in five consecutive games. The last Tech player to do that was Michael Crabtree, who strung together nine eight-catch games in 2007.

AROUND THE NATION: Washington's Bishop Sankey, who ran for 167 yards against Oregon, leads the nation with 149.8 a game. Sankey has run for at least 125 yards in five of his six games. ... Three of the top six teams in sacks hail from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson (4.0 a game) and Virginia Tech (3.86) rank 1-2 and Miami (3.6) is sixth. ... The three most-penalized teams come from the Pac-12. Washington has been flagged 58 times, and UCLA and California 52 times each. ... Notre Dame goes into this week's game against Southern California having gone 12 quarters without putting the ball on the ground. The Irish's only fumble this season, by Amir Carlisle, came in the fourth quarter against Purdue on Sept. 14.
