STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford coach David Shaw says he misspoke when detailing the nature of linebacker Shayne Skov's knee injury while disputing Washington coach Steve Sarkisian's allegations that the Cardinal faked injuries in a 31-28 win over the Huskies last Saturday.
Shaw initially said Tuesday that Skov had an MRI exam on his surgically repaired left knee. But video shows Skov limping off the field in the fourth quarter clutching his right knee.
Asked for a clarification Wednesday, a team spokesman says Shaw apologizes for mischaracterizing the injury. Shaw says Skov, in fact, hyperextended his right knee.
Shaw says the first reaction that stuck in his head was with Skov's left knee. The linebacker tore several ligaments and tendons in his left knee in 2011.
Skov is expected to play Saturday at Utah.
