Kalgoorlie, Western Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Jack Wilson birdied the first playoff hole on Sunday to win the WA Goldfields PGA Championship.
Wilson closed with an even-par 72 to end alongside Nick Gillespie (69) at 10- under-par 278 on the Kalgoorlie Golf Course.
Back on the par-5 18th for the playoff, Gillespie hit into desert and failed to get up and down for birdie as Wilson made his birdie try to earn his first professional title.
Wilson, 22, birdied the second and fourth, but stumbled to a bogey at the fifth. Around the turn, he birdied the par-5 11th, but faltered to a double bogey at the par-4 15th to drop back to 10-under. Wilson parred out to force the playoff.
Gillespie, who was in the penultimate group, bogeyed the third to slide to minus-6. He came back with consecutive birdies at seven and eight, and again at 12 and 13 to jump to minus-10. He closed with five pars in a row to force the extra session.
Adam Bland and James Nitties both shot 70 on Sunday to share third at minus-9, while Jordan Sherrat shot 69 to grab fifth at 7-under 281.
