Giants' Wilson leaves with neck injury

New York Giants running back David Wilson departed Sunday's 36-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles late in the first quarter with an injured neck.

Wilson apparently got hurt while being taken down for a 3-yard loss near his own end zone by Eagles defensive lineman Cedric Thornton on the final play of the opening period. The Giants announced later on that the 2012 first-round draft choice would not return to the contest.

Prior to the injury, Wilson delivered a 5-yard touchdown run on New York's initial drive and recorded 16 yards on six carries.

Brandon Jacobs replaced Wilson and had a costly fumble near midfield in the second quarter that Philadelphia recovered. The miscue was converted into an Alex Henery field goal that gave the Eagles a 16-7 lead.

The Giants entered the game minus three starters in cornerback Corey Webster (groin), center David Baas (neck) and defensive tackle Linval Joseph (ankle). Additionally, guard Chris Snee (hip) and cornerback Aaron Ross (back) were placed on season-ending injured reserve earlier in the week.
