Shanghai, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Berlocq of Argentina and Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic were among the winners Sunday on the first day of play at the Shanghai Masters.

Only four matches in the main draw were played Sunday. The Masters 1000 event features Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as the top seeds. Djokovic, the defending Shanghai champion, beat Nadal on Sunday in the final of the China Open in Beijing.

Berlocq rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Russian Dmitry Tursunov, while Rosol claimed a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 triumph over France's Julien Benneteau, who has lost three straight matches, including the final at the Malaysian Open last Sunday. He also fell in the first round of the China Open this past week.

Rosol, meanwhile, earned a second-round matchup with third-seeded David Ferrer. The Spaniard was among the top eight seeds that received first-round byes.

Germany's Florian Mayer advanced Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Chinese wild card Wu Di, while Spain's Pablo Andujar held a 5-2 lead over Mikhail Youzhny when the Russian retired. Andujar will meet seventh-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in round two.

The first round will continue Monday with 10 more matches. Seeded action will include No. 11 Tommy Haas of Germany against American Sam Querrey, while 14th- seeded American John Isner will take on Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo. Also, 16th-seeded Tommy Robredo will square off against fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes.
