Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch wrecked during Saturday's practice session at Kansas Speedway, forcing both Chase drivers to use backup cars for Sunday's 400-mile race.
Kyle Busch, who is currently third in the Chase standings, lost control and crashed into the wall in the opening minutes of practice. His No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team rolled out the backup car, meaning he will have to start from the rear of the field. He qualified 18th on Friday.
Moments after practice had resumed, Kurt Busch got loose and backed it into the wall as well, damaging his primary car beyond repair. He will also start from the back of the field in his No. 78 Furniture Row Racing car.
After scoring top-five finishes in the first three Chase races (Chicagoland, New Hampshire and Dover), Kyle Busch is 12 points behind leader and teammate Matt Kenseth. He has recorded just two top-10 finishes in 12 races at Kansas, making this racetrack one of his worst on the Sprint Cup Series schedule. He has finished 31st and 38th in the last two events here.
Kurt Busch is presently ninth in points (-55). He qualified one spot behind his younger brother in 19th.
