South Carolina All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney did not practice Thursday because of bruised ribs, but is expected to play against Kentucky on Saturday night.

Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward says Clowney was held out of drills because of the ribs. Ward says he'll be in the lineup for the 13th-ranked Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference).

Clowney has also dealt with bone spurs in his right foot this season that the 6-foot-6, 274-pound lineman has had since high school.

Clowney is the reigning SEC defensive player of the year. He has two sacks this season as opponents have generally played away from Clowney's side on offense.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says Clowney has played hard this year and is doing well.
