Manchester, England – Saido Berahino's second-half tally proved to be the difference on Saturday as West Bromwich Albion stunned Manchester United by a 2-1 score at Old Trafford.
After suffering a demoralizing 4-1 loss to derby rivals Manchester City last week, order was restored a bit when the Red Devils squeaked by Liverpool in the third round of the League Cup.
But the pressure was back on United manager David Moyes on Saturday when West Brom took the lead in the 54th minute as deadline day signing Morgan Amalfitano struck for the Baggies.
But just three minutes later, Wayne Rooney equalized for the defending champions with an inch-perfect free kick.
West Brom, however, got the last laugh when Amalfitano fed one through to Berahino, who put it past United goalkeeper David De Gea to put the visitors in front.
United went in search of another equalizer and were given hope when the fourth official's board showed four minutes of stoppage time, but the Baggies' backline held firm to claim their first win at Old Trafford since 1978.
Aston Villa 3, Manchester City 2
Birmingham, England - Aston Villa netted a pair of second-half goals in a span of two minutes on Saturday as the Villans rebounded to snatch three points against Manchester City by a 3-2 score at Villa Park.
Yaya Toure opened the scoring for Manchester City in the final minute of the first half, but Karim El Ahmadi equalized for Villa six minutes after the interval.
Edin Dzeko fired City back in front in the 56th minute, but then things unraveled for the Citizens as Leandro Bacuna equalized for Villa in the 73rd minute with a spectacular, curling free kick into the top left corner, and just two minutes later a mix-up at the back allowed Andreas Weimann to sneak through and roll it past City goalkeeper Joe Hart for the winner.
The result sees City drop to fifth place with 10 points, while Villa jumps to ninth place on nine points.
Tottenham 1, Chelsea 1
London, England - Chelsea battled back to rescue a point on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against London rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
The hosts struck first 19 minutes into the contest through a goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson which held up as the difference heading into the second half.
But the Blues had an answer in the second period of play when captain John Terry netted an equalizer in the 65th minute. Things became more difficult for Chelsea nine minutes from time when Fernando Torres was sent off.
Jose Mourinho's club, however, held out over the final nine minutes to collect a valuable point away from home. The result moves Spurs up to 13 points, while Chelsea sits in third place on 11 points.
Arsenal 2, Swansea City 1
Swansea, Wales - Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday after earning a 2-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Arsenal grabbed the lead in the 58th minute when youngster Serge Gnabry scored his first Premier League goal. The Gunners then made it 2-0 lead four minutes later when Aaron Ramsey found the back of the net with a powerful strike from outside the box.
Swansea kept at it and got one back with a beautiful move nine minutes from time as Wilfried Bony flicked it over the Arsenal backline for Ben Davies to volley home.
But the Arsenal defense withstood some late pressure from the Swans to collect their fifth consecutive league win since falling on opening day to Aston Villa. The Gunners sit atop the league with 15 points, while Swansea remain in 14th place on seven points.
Cardiff City 2, Fulham 1
London, England - Jordon Mutch's stoppage time winner handed newly-promoted Cardiff City a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage.
The Bluebirds struck first 12 minutes into the game when Steven Caulker found the back of the net, but Bryan Ruiz pulled the Cottagers level on the stroke of halftime.
The match appeared to be headed for a draw, but Mutch had other ideas in stoppage time as he ripped a right-footed, rising strike into the top left corner to stun the home fans and give Cardiff City an impressive three points.
The result moves Cardiff up to 11th with eight points, while Fulham sits in the drop zone with four points.
Hull City 1, West Ham 0
Hull, England - Robert Brady netted the only goal of the afternoon as Hull City claimed a 1-0 result against West Ham at the KC Stadium.
Both sides played the opening 10-plus minutes rather cautiously, but Hull City caught a break in the 12th minute when West Ham defender Joey O'Brien brought down Brady in the area, resulting in a penalty kick for the Tigers.
Brady then calmly dispatched his strike into the bottom right corner to give his side the lead.
West Ham had the better of possession and fired six shots on target, but were unable to break down the Hull City defense as the home side held on to collect the three points.
Southampton 2, Crystal Palace 0
Southampton, England - Southampton jumped into fourth place in the Premier League table on Saturday after earning a comfortable 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at St. Mary's Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Saints opened the scoring through summer signing Pablo Osvaldo, who found the back of the net two minutes into the second half.
Two minutes later Rickie Lambert got into the scoring mood to give the home side a two-goal advantage. Crystal Palace had opportunities to score, but failed to take of those chances and ultimately suffered the defeat to remain with just one win this campaign.
