Concordia gets a helping hand

The Concordia College Alabama football team plays small-college ball, but it's going to look like an NFL team this week.

Concordia's bus caught on fire on the way to a game last week. Nobody was injured, but the uniforms were destroyed. Well, Concordia's green-and-gold color scheme is a close match to that of the Green Bay Packers, who have donated some gently used pants and socks to keep Concordia going.

"The Packers have never let me down," said Rick Riehl director of donor relations at Concordia-Alabama's sister school, Concordia-Wisconsin. "I knew they would step up and help out our sister school in Alabama during this time of need."

Concordia also received an unexpected shipment from Adidas, AL.com reported.

Thursday morning, a UPS truck full of football equipment -- everything from jerseys to gloves and pads -- arrived at Concordia's campus in Selma, Ala., athletic director Don Lee told AL.com.

"It all just showed up," he said.
