Niners' Davis inactive against Colts

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis will not play in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the team's most recent outing.

Davis strained his left hamstring during the fourth quarter of last Sunday's 29-3 loss in Seattle and did not practice at all this week. The 49ers had labeled him questionable for their Week 3 tilt with the Colts.

The talented eighth-year pro ranks second among San Francisco players with nine catches and 118 receiving yards through the first two games and had two touchdown receptions in the Niners' season-opening win over Green Bay.

Rookie Vance McDonald, who has two catches totaling 44 yards over the season's initial two weeks, will draw the start in Davis' absence.

Two defensive starters, end Ray McDonald (ankle) and safety Eric Reid (concussion) are active for San Francisco after also being listed as questionable. Reserve running back LaMichael James will miss a third straight week with a knee injury.
