Metz, France – Andreas Seppi will not make a return trip to the final in Metz after suffering a second-round upset Thursday at the $545,000 Moselle Open tennis event.
French crowd favorite Nicolas Mahut, a winner of two ATP World Tour titles this season, popped seven aces in upending the third-seeded Italian Seppi 6-4, 6-4 on the indoor hardcourts at Parc des Expositions.
Seppi lost to two-time reigning champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in last year's finale here.
Meanwhile, eighth-seeded German Florian Mayer avoided an upset by tackling Slovak Lukas Lacko 6-3, 6-2 on Day 4.
The 2013 Metz champion will collect $98,000.
