ESPN brings 'GameDay' to Fargo to highlight NDSU's dominance, but fans fret over location

ESPN has decided to stray from its normal game plan for its popular College GameDay show and stage Saturday's event before the North Dakota State game in Fargo.

It will be the fourth-ever Football Championship Subdivision matchup featured on the show. ESPN officials say they like NDSU's standing as two-time defending FCS champs and current No. 1 team.

The show will be aired in front of the historic Fargo Theatre in the city's downtown, a move that isn't popular with all fans. Many wanted it near the team's indoor football stadium and tailgating area.

ESPN officials say they have been moving away from such backdrops, and say downtown will show the school, city and state in the best light.

NDSU hosts Delaware State at 2:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday.
