Boston, MA – The New York Yankees have activated pitcher David Phelps off the 60-day disabled list and opened a roster spot by moving shortstop Derek Jeter to the 60-day DL.
Phelps had been sidelined since July with a right forearm strain and suffered a setback during a rehab stint in August. The right-hander entered Saturday's action with a record of 6-5 and a 5.01 ERA in 18 games, including 12 starts.
The Yankees had already decided to shut Jeter down on Wednesday because of a left ankle injury. He last played a week ago against Boston, leaving that contest because of the ankle issue.
Jeter appeared in just 17 games this season and batted a mere .190 with a home run and seven runs batted in. He missed the first three months of the campaign recovering from a twice-fractured left ankle and was also slowed by quad and calf injuries.
