Texas A&M has retired the No. 44 jersey worn by 1957 Heisman Trophy winner John David Crow.

Crow played for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant and the coach famously said before the vote that: "If John David Crow doesn't win the Heisman Trophy, they ought to stop giving it."

Crow ran for 562 yards, had five interceptions as a safety and returned kicks for the Aggies to gain the honor.

The 78-year-old was in College Station on Saturday as the school retired his jersey at halftime of the game against top-ranked Alabama.

He and last year's winner Johnny Manziel are the only Aggies to have won the award.
