SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14

Final Score: Buffalo 29, Miami 10

Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Bills honored their past and celebrated their future with a win. Fittingly, it was a good day for old and new players. Sammy Watkins scored his first NFL touchdown, C.J. Spiller returned a kickoff 102 yards for a TD and the Bills blew past the Miami Dolphins 29-10 on Sunday in their home opener. After holding a pregame ceremony to honor team founder Ralph Wilson, who died in March, everything went as planned for the Bills in a win that came five days after Sabres owner Terry Pegula reached an agreement to buy the team, ensuring they will remain in Buffalo. EJ Manuel threw for 202 yards, No. 4 pick Watkins had a one-handed touchdown grab and Spiller's electric run led a good day for the Buffalo (2-0) special teams. Former Dolphin Dan Carpenter kicked five field goals for the Bills, who could go 3-0 for the first time in three years next week with a win over San Diego. Things fell apart for the Dolphins (1-1) after a Week 1 win over New England. Making matters worse, they lost running back Knowshon Moreno to an elbow injury in the first quarter.

Final Score: Carolina 24, Detroit 7

Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Cam Newton led Carolina on two second-half touchdown drives as the Panthers also used a stout defense to take a 24-7 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Newton had missed last week's season-opening win against Tampa Bay with injured ribs, but was good to go this week and after shaking off some rust, passed for 281 yards on 22-of-34 attempts and a touchdown. Jason Avant had a touchdown catch, while Jonathan Stewart added a rushing score and Graham Gano hit three field goals for the Panthers (2-0), who recovered two fumbles in the game and also had an interception. Matthew Stafford was 27-for-48 for 291 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Lions (1-1), who had opened the season with a home victory against the New York Giants.

Final Score: Cincinnati 24, Atlanta 10

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Andy Dalton threw for 252 yards and the Cincinnati defense picked off Matt Ryan three times, as the Bengals claimed a 24-10 decision over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 action. Dalton completed 15- of-23 passes and connected with Mohamed Sanu for a 77-yard score for the Bengals (2-0). Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill combined for 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 42 carries, while Bernard added 79 yards on five receptions. Final Score: Cleveland 26, New Orleans 24

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Cundiff's 29-yard field goal with three seconds remaining gave the Cleveland Browns a stunning 26-24 win over the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans (0-2) led for the bulk of the fourth quarter following Mark Ingram's 1-yard touchdown less than three minutes into the period. After a series of punts both ways, the Browns (1-1) took over at their own 4-yard line with 2:46 to play. Brian Hoyer converted two third downs with his arm to Miles Austin, and he found Gary Barnidge for 10 yards on 4th-and-6. The biggest pass of the game came three plays later, when Hoyer looked up top for a wide open Andrew Hawkins, who hauled in a 28- yard completion down to the Saints 11. Following a timeout, Cundiff calmly kicked his second field goal of the day to make Cleveland winners. Hawkins' reception was Cleveland's longest play from scrimmage all game. Hoyer completed 24-of-40 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown. Terrance West made his first career start and carried 19 times for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Johnny Manziel made his NFL debut but his lone pass attempt fell incomplete.

Final Score: New England 30, Minnesota 7

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass, Stevan Ridley ran for another score and the New England Patriots rolled to a 30-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium. Brady passed for only 149 yards, but was aided by a New England defense that picked off Minnesota quarterback Matt Cassel four times. The Patriots scored 17 points off the interceptions. Ridley had 101 yards on 25 carries for New England (1-1), which rebounded from a season-opening loss at Miami. The Patriots last dropped their first two games of a season in 2001. Cassel threw for 202 yards, 75 coming on the game's opening drive that ended in a touchdown pass to Matt Asiata. The Vikings (1-1), coming off a win at St. Louis, played without Adrian Peterson. The club deactivated the running back after he was indicted by a grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child.

Final Score: Arizona 25, NY Giants 14

East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Ted Ginn Jr.'s 71-yard punt return for a touchdown highlighted a dominant fourth quarter by the Arizona Cardinals in a 25-14 win over the New York Giants on Sunday. Arizona (2-0) forced two turnovers along with Ginn's return TD in the fourth as New York did everything in its power to hand the game away in the final quarter. Drew Stanton, making his first start since 2010 in place of Carson Palmer, managed the Cardinals offense on 14-of-29 passing for 167 yards. Palmer, who was listed as questionable throughout the week, missed the contest due to a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder. Andre Ellington rushed for 91 yards and Jonathan Dwyer ran for a touchdown in the win. Eli Manning finished with 277 yards on 26- of-39 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Giants (0-2), who have lost seven straight games in the month of September.

Final Score: Dallas 26, Tennessee 10

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Cowboys are almost perfect when DeMarco Murray gets 20 or more carries in a game. Murray carried the ball 29 times for 167 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' 26-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Cowboys (1-1) improved to 12-1 in the aforementioned scenario involving Murray. The lone loss was last week against the 49ers. Tony Romo completed 19-of-29 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown. The veteran quarterback bounced back after throwing three interceptions during last week's 28-17 defeat. Dez Bryant battled through a shoulder injury and ended with 10 catches for 103 yards and a score. Jake Locker connected on 18- of-34 passes for 234 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Titans (1-1), who failed to build off last Sunday's 26-10 win over the Chiefs. Delanie Walker caught 10 passes for 142 yards and a score, while Shonn Greene carried the ball five times for 40 yards.

Final Score: Washington 41, Jacksonville 10

Landover, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Kirk Cousins relieved an injured Robert Griffin III and led the Redskins to a thorough 41-10 dismantling of the Jacksonville Jaguars in Washington's bittersweet home opener at FedExField. Griffin suffered an ugly injury early in the first quarter when the athletic but oft-injured quarterback threw across his body and turned his left ankle when planting his foot. He stayed on the sideline face down in obvious pain and was carted off the field with tears in his eyes and an air cast on his lower left leg. The initial reports indicate Griffin dislocated his ankle, and the Redskins later lost DeSean Jackson to a shoulder injury. Cousins stepped up in their absence and finished with 250 yards and two touchdown passes while Washington's defense tied a team record with 10 sacks -- four from Ryan Kerrigan. Alfred Morris ran for 85 yards and two scores while backup tight end Niles Paul had eight receptions for 99 yards and a TD for the Redskins (1-1), who bounced back from a season-opening loss to the Texans and snapped a nine- game losing streak dating back to last season. Jacksonville (0-2) was outgained 449-148, recorded just eight first downs to Washington's 32 and only held the ball for 21 minutes. Chad Henne, pressured throughout, threw an interception and completed just 14- of-28 passes for 193 yards, 63 coming on a touchdown pass to Marcedes Lewis.

Final Score: San Diego 30, Seattle 21

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Philip Rivers threw three touchdown passes to Antonio Gates, and the San Diego Chargers handed the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks a 30-21 loss on Sunday. Rivers went 28-of-37 passing for 284 yards and the three scores to his tight end, while Gates hauled in seven receptions for 96 yards. Nick Novak knocked down three field goals for the Chargers (1-1), who opened the season with a disappointing 18-17 setback at Arizona on Monday. San Diego running back Ryan Mathews was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter and the Chargers said after the game that they are concerned that the back has an right MCL sprain. He will undergo an MRI on Monday. Russell Wilson converted 17-of-25 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns for Seattle (1-1), which had an eight-game winning streak snapped that dated back to last season and included the three-game run to win the Lombardi trophy. Robert Turbin and Marshawn Lynch each caught touchdown passes from Wilson, while Percy Harvin rushed for 45 yards on two carries with a touchdown in the loss.

Final Score: St. Louis 19, Tampa Bay 17

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Greg Zuerlein kicked a 38-yard field goal with less than a minute remaining to lift the injury-riddled St. Louis Rams to a 19-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Austin Davis, who began the season No. 3 on the Rams depth chart, made his first career start and completed 22-of-29 passes for 235 yards. The former walk-on at Southern Miss led a 12-play drive in the final minutes that led to Zuerlein's game-winning kick. Davis made a number of impressive throws on the drive, none bigger than his 27-yard toss to Austin Pettis on third down. Tampa Bay got the ball back with 38 seconds and quickly moved down the field. Josh McCown completed a 19- yard pass underneath to Bobby Rainey, then went up top to rookie Mike Evans for 29 yards. Out of timeouts, the Bucs hurried to the line of scrimmage, but with eight seconds left, Evans was unable to walk off the field on his own power after taking a crushing blow following his catch. According to league rules, there was a 10 second runoff and the game was over. McCown threw for 179 yards and an interception while adding two rushing scores on his only two carries for Tampa Bay (0-2), which started 0-2 for the second straight season. Rainey started in place of an injured Doug Martin and ran 22 times for 144 yards. Zuerlein went 4-for-4 on field goals for the Rams (1-1), who bounced back after getting blown out in Week 1 by the Vikings.

Final Score: Denver 24, Kansas City 17

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Stopping Peyton Manning was already going to be a daunting task. Stopping him without three defensive starters only made it that much tougher. Alex Smith did all he could to keep the injury-riddled Kansas City defense off the field in the second half, but Manning tossed three touchdown passes in the first 30 minutes and Denver held off the Chiefs, 24-17, on Sunday afternoon. Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton tipped Smith's 4th-and-goal pass to ensure the victory with 15 seconds left. The Chiefs, who held a 43-15 advantage in plays run and held the ball for 20:54 in the second half, regained possession at their own 34-yard line with 3:20 remaining after Brandon McManus booted a 20-yard field goal to give Denver a 24-17 advantage. Kansas City was aided by a trio of penalties on the drive, the first one an offsides call that negated an Aqib Talib 41-yard interception return for a touchdown on a 3rd-and-5. Smith hit Travis Kelce for 20 yards on an ensuing 3rd-and-9 and the Chiefs' luck continued when it appeared that DeMarcus Ware strip-sacked Smith from behind two plays later. Nate Irving recovered the fumble, but it was ruled that Smith's arm was moving forward following a review and KC kept the ball. A backpedaling Smith lofted a 21-yard completion to Dwayne Bowe to set up a 1st-and-goal from the 9, but Denver's defense stiffened up from there.

Final Score: Green Bay 31, NY Jets 24

Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Rodgers had two touchdown passes in the second half and the Green Bay Packers rallied from a poor start to take a 31-24 win over the New York Jets. Jordy Nelson caught nine passes for 209 yards and a touchdown, while Randall Cobb had a pair of touchdown catches in the win. Geno Smith went just 16-for-32 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and also had 26 yards and a touchdown on seven carries for the Jets (1-1), who opened their season with a win over Oakland. Final Score: Chicago 28, San Francisco 20

Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - All it took was a new stadium for the Chicago Bears to end their near 30-year hex in San Francisco. Jay Cutler tossed three of his four touchdown passes to Brandon Marshall and the Bears rallied for a 28-20 victory over the 49ers on Sunday night in the first regular-season game at Levi's Stadium. San Francisco opened up a 17-0 second-quarter lead, but Chicago (1-1) outscored the 49ers (1-1) 28-3 from the one-minute mark of that second frame on to win its first game in San Francisco since 1985. The Bears had dropped eight in a row in San Francisco by an average margin of 34-6 prior to Sunday's tilt. The 49ers regained possession with 6:55 remaining following Marshall's 3-yard TD catch, which staked Chicago to a 28-20 lead. Colin Kaepernick scrambled for 15 yards on a 3rd-and-3 and later moved the chains on a 4th-and-6 when he hit Michael Crabtree for a gain of nine yards. A delay of game penalty further in the drive set up a 3rd-and-17 at the Chicago 25. Kaepernick dumped the ball off to Frank Gore for a gain of eight to set up 4th-and-9, but his pass to Crabtree went off his hands and two Cutler kneeldowns sealed the outcome.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

Final Score: Baltimore 26, Pittsburgh 6

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Ravens channeled their emotions during a turbulent week off the field into a dominant one on it, as they crushed the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, 26-6, on Thursday night. Joe Flacco threw a pair of touchdown passes to Owen Daniels, Justin Tucker kicked four field goals and Baltimore forced three turnovers in putting the focus back on football if but for a few hours. The Ray Rice controversy will continue to dominate the headlines in the coming weeks, both in the way the situation was handled by the league and Rice's playing future, but the Ravens (1-1) did not appear fazed by the frenzy. Flacco played mistake-free and threw 71 of his 166 yards to Steve Smith, Sr., while Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett combined for 152 rushing yards to help Baltimore rebound from a season-opening loss to the Bengals. Pittsburgh (1-1) recorded seven first downs in the second half -- four coming in its final drive with the outcome already decided. Ben Roethlisberger completed just 22-of-37 passes for 217 yards with an interception and was held without a touchdown pass for the first time since the final game of the 2011 season.
