American Christina McHale secured a berth in the semifinals at the $235,000 Bell Challenge tennis tournament.

The New Jersey native overcame fellow non-seed Polona Hercog, of Slovenia, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on the indoor carpet at PEPS on the campus of Laval University.

McHale, who will face New Zealand's Marina Erakovic in Saturday's final four, hadn't even reached a quarterfinal this year until this week -- her 18th tournament of 2013.

Meanwhile, the sixth seed and 2011 Quebec runner-up Erakovic came from behind to beat Croat Ajla Tomljanovic, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, on Day 5.

The 2013 Bell Challenge champion will earn $40,000.
