Cincinnati Reds starter Tony Cingrani left Tuesday's start against the Cubs in the second inning after aggravating a lower back strain that recently caused him to hit the disabled list.

Cingrani left his Aug. 20 start against Arizona in the fourth inning with the back injury and returned last week after missing two starts.

The rookie left-hander pitched into the sixth inning in his victory over the Cardinals on Sept. 5, but gave up a long home run to Welington Castillo on Tuesday and walked off the mound in discomfort with two outs in the second inning.

Cingrani has been terrific in 22 games -- 17 starts -- coming into Tuesday's outing, having pitched to a 2.80 earned run average while limiting opponents to 1.08 walks/hits per inning pitched.
