Milt Newton says he's been waiting 22 years to become a general manager of an NBA team. That the opportunity has finally arrived in the place where his wife grew up and under the man he befriended while working together in Washington make it all the more perfect for him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves introduced Newton as the team's new GM on Tuesday. He will be working under president of basketball operations Flip Saunders, who got to know Newton well while he was coaching the Wizards.

Newton spent 10 years in the Wizards' front office. But he jumped at the chance to join the Wolves and get a bigger say in the operations of the team.

He says he can't wait to get started.
