Sainte-Julie, Quebec (Sports Network) - Bernhard Langer fired a 5-under-par 67 on Saturday and grabbed a 3-stroke lead entering the final round of the Montreal Championship.
Langer, a two-time winner on the Champions Tour this season, sits at 6-under- par 138 through 36 holes at La Vallee du Richelieu Golf Club's Rouville Course.
Charles Schwab Cup points leader Kenny Perry is tied for second place after carding a second-round 71. He stands alongside Willie Wood (68), Chien Soon Lu (68), Bill Glasson (69) and Anders Forsbrand (69) at 3-under 141.
Duffy Waldorf (70), Michael Allen (68) and Esteban Toledo (69) share seventh at 2-under, one shot ahead of Rocco Mediate (68) and six others.
Overnight leader Dick Mast stumbled to a 75 on Saturday, opening the door for a contingent of candidates.
Perry, Waldorf and Tom Pernice Jr. all jumped into the top spot before Langer supplanted them and pulled away.
Langer's bogey-free round got going with a birdie at the third and continued with further gains at Nos. 5 and 8, as the German turned in a tie for the lead with Waldorf at 4-under.
Waldorf, playing two groups ahead, then bogeyed the 12th, handing the lead to Langer, who didn't look back.
Langer, an 18-time Champions Tour winner, went ahead by two with a birdie at the 12th, then turned the trick again at the 14th to move three ahead. He parred out to retain the advantage.
NOTES: This season, Langer won the Ace Group Classic in February and the Greater Gwinnett Championship in April ... Langer is No. 2 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings ...
