Texas Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez has been named the American League's Rookie of the Month for August.

Perez was a perfect 5-0 with a 3.06 ERA and 26 strikeouts over five starts during the month. The Venezuelan native tossed the first complete game of his career on Aug. 11, allowing one run on four hits with eight strikeouts in a 6-1 victory over the Houston Astros.

His five-game winning streak in August made him the only Texas rookie ever to win five consecutive starts without a no-decision.

Other players considered included Avisail Garcia of the Chicago White Sox, Robbie Grossman, Jarred Cosart and L.J. Hoes of the Houston Astros, Andrew Albers of the Minnesota Twins, Danny Farquhar of the Seattle Mariners, Sonny Gray and Nate Freiman of the Oakland Athletics, J.B. Shuck and Kole Calhoun of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Jose Iglesias of the Detroit Tigers.
