The Chicago Cubs designated pitcher Michael Bowden for assignment and selected the contract of pitcher Chang-Yong Lim from Triple-A Iowa.

Bowden was 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA in 34 games with the Cubs this season.

Lim had no record and a 1.61 ERA in 21 games (five starts) in the minors this year. The right-hander, who had Tommy John ligament replacement surgery in 2012, signed a two-year contract with the Cubs in the offseason.

Prior to joining the Cubs, Lim had pitched the last 17 seasons professionally in Korea (1996-2007) and in Japan (2008-12).
