The Chicago White Sox placed catcher Tyler Flowers on the 60-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees.

Flowers will have exploratory surgery Thursday morning on a sore right shoulder that has bothered him for quite some time. He is expected to miss three to six months.

In 84 games this season, Flowers hit just .195 with 10 homers and 24 RBI.

Additionally, the White Sox purchased the contracts of pitchers Erik Johnson and Daniel Webb, catcher Miguel Gonzalez and infielder Marcus Semien from Triple-A Charlotte and transferred pitcher Brian Omogrosso to the 60-day disabled list.
