The San Diego Padres recalled pitcher Tommy Layne and catcher Chris Robinson from Triple-A Tucson on Sunday as major league rosters expand.

Layne will join the Padres for the third time this season. Over nine relief appearances this year, Layne is 0-2 with a 2.45 earned run average. The 28- year-old southpaw posted a 2-4 mark with a 4.50 ERA over 49 minor league appearances.

Robinson was selected from Tucson on Aug. 15, but did not appear in a game before he was optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 17. The 29-year-old was batting .316 with five doubles and 17 RBI over 39 games with Tucson.
