The Cleveland Indians have agreed to terms with Kelly Shoppach on a minor league deal and assigned the veteran catcher to Triple-A Columbus.

Shoppach, 33, played for the Indians from 2006-09. He began the 2013 season with Seattle, but was released after hitting .196 in 35 games. Since then, he spent time with the Triple-A affiliates of the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates, but ultimately was released from both squads.

For his major league career, Shoppach has hit .224 with 70 homers and 216 RBI over 571 games with Boston, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, the New York Mets and Mariners.
