Multi-tread technology developed by Goodyear to debut at Atlanta to improve reliability

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The common denominator among all NASCAR drivers is they all want more grip from their tires.

It has been difficult in the past for manufacturer Goodyear to meet the drivers' desired grip preferences at a track like Atlanta Motor Speedway without sacrificing reliability. But Goodyear has taken steps to develop new "zone tread" technology that it will debut in its tires this weekend in an effort to combat both issues.

The tires, most recently tested Aug. 6 at Atlanta by 13 teams, combine two different compounds to create a rubber capable of withstanding race conditions while also providing the grip the drivers desire. The inside of the right-side tires uses the same compound Goodyear used at Michigan this year, and the outside uses the compound from previous Atlanta races.
