Lausanne, Switzerland – United States skater Simon Cho, a short track medalist in Vancouver in 2010, received a ban for two years by the International Skating Union for tampering with the skates of Canadian rival Olivier Jean.
According to the ISU, Cho, who won a bronze in the 5,000-meter relay at the Olympics, will be suspended through Oct. 4, 2014. That means he won't be able to participate in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.
It was during a press conference on Oct. 5, 2012 that Cho confessed to tampering the skates of Jean at the 2011 ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Team Championships.
In a statement on February 11, 2013, Cho admitted that he had damaged the blade of Jean's skate, but did so on request of his coach Jae Su Chun.
Jean couldn't compete in the 5,000-meter relay final because his skate was bent.
Although Chun denied having asked his skaters to tamper with the Canadian's skates, he was found guilty of misconduct and was given a two-year suspension until Aug. 25, 2015.
