Manchester, England – Manchester United will attempt to get its first Premier League home win under new manager David Moyes when the club welcomes Chelsea to Old Trafford on Monday.
Both clubs have gotten off to winning starts as United opened the season with an impressive 4-1 road victory at Swansea City while Chelsea's home defeats of Hull City and Aston Villa have lifted the Blues to the top of the table.
Chelsea is still unbeaten at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho, creating a model of supremacy on home turf that United would love to emulate for their new boss. Red Devils defender Jonny Evans spoke to the importance of achieving a win in the club's first home match of the season.
"It's important to get off to a good start, especially when it's your first home game and the manager's first competitive game at Old Trafford," Evans told the club's official website. "It is always important to get off to a good start and lay down a marker for the rest of the season."
Manchester United has become renown for making slow starts to the season only to turn on the afterburners late in the campaign, but Ryan Giggs, who was added to the coaching staff during the summer in addition to his playing duties, wants to see the reigning champions set the pace this year.
"In Mourinho's first spell at Chelsea, they obviously got us to a few good starts and we didn't manage to catch them," said the Welshman. "You always want to get off to a good start. It has obviously been well documented that we have got a tough start, but we started well with a good win at Swansea on Saturday and hopefully we can carry that on."
Manchester City is the third club that is best-positioned to take home the Premier League title. The Citizens started the season in memorable fashion thanks to a 4-0 victory at the Etihad on Monday, albeit against a rather pedestrian Newcastle side. Manuel Pellegrini will hope to keep his side rolling when it heads to Cardiff City Stadium to take on the newly-promoted Bluebirds on Sunday.
Tottenham is hoping to claim a top-four finish to ensure Champions League football for next season, and after earning a 1-0 defeat of Crystal Palace in its opening match of the campaign, Spurs will hope to make it maximum points through two games when they welcome Swansea City to White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Saturday's action will be highlighted by an Arsenal side hoping to erase a dreadful start to the season. After a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger received a slew of criticism regarding his refusal to spend any transfer funds afforded to him. He certainly could use a victory at Fulham to alleviate some pressure from supporters who are calling for his tenure at the Emirates to come to a close.
Elsewhere, Liverpool and Aston Villa will hope to make it six points for the season on Saturday when the two sides meet at Villa Park, while Southampton will go for a second straight victory when it welcomes Sunderland to St. Mary's.
Also on Saturday, Everton hosts West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park, Hull City welcomes Norwich City to KC Stadium, West Ham travels to St. James' Park to face a debilitated Newcastle side, and Stoke City will attempt to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at Anfield when it takes on Crystal Palace at the Britannia.
