Atlanta Braves infielder Tyler Pastornicky will have season-ending surgery on his left knee to repair a torn ACL he suffered during Wednesday's collision with outfielder Jason Heyward.

The two collided in right field during the third inning of the Braves' contest with the Philadelphia Phillies. Pastornicky appeared camped under a shallow fly ball off the bat of Jimmy Rollins, but Heyward came charging in from behind and clipped his left side.

Pastornicky was one game into his third major league stint with the Braves. The 23-year-old had been called up on Tuesday when second baseman Dan Uggla was placed on the disabled list. He appeared in 20 games for Atlanta in 2013.

With the Braves once again lacking depth in the infield, they purchased the contract of infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett.
