The Colorado Avalanche and captain Gabriel Landeskog have agreed on a seven-year contract extension that will keep the young star in Denver through the 2020-21 season.

Landeskog was the second overall selection in the 2011 NHL draft and he won the 2011-12 Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's top rookie.

Last September, he became the youngest captain in league history at 19 years, 286 days, 11 days younger than Sidney Crosby was when he was named captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2007.

The left winger has collected 31 goals and 38 assists in 118 career games. After last season, he helped Sweden capture the gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Championship in Stockholm and Helsinki.
