Virginia Tech and Penn State have agreed to play a home-and-home series beginning in 2022.

Hokies athletics director Jim Weaver made the announcement Wednesday. Barring a bowl matchup in the interim, the teams will meet for the first time at Lane Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022, and again in State College, Pa., on Sept. 16 the following season.

Penn State becomes the fourth Big Ten school to agree to a home-and-home series with the Hokies. They will play Ohio State in 2014-15, Wisconsin in 2019-20 and Michigan in 2020-21.

The series figures to have special significance to Weaver. He earned bachelor's (1967) and master's degrees (1968) from Penn State, played center and linebacker for the Nittany Lions and was an assistant coach there from 1969-72.
