The Kansas City Royals have placed outfielder Lorenzo Cain on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Additionally, the Royals recalled pitchers Will Smith and Donnie Joseph from Triple-A Omaha and designated pitcher Francisley Bueno for assignment.

Cain suffered the injury during batting practice on Friday. The right-handed hitter is batting .261 with 19 doubles, four homers and 43 RBI in 96 games this season.

Smith is 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA in seven games (one start) for the Royals this year.

Joseph appeared in two games for Kansas City in July. The left-hander was 3-3 with a 3.42 ERA and six saves in 41 games with Omaha.

Bueno tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win in Friday's 9-6 win against Boston. It was his only appearance for the Royals this season.
