The Kansas City Royals made room for newly-acquired outfielder Justin Maxwell by placing second baseman Chris Getz on the disabled list.

Maxwell was picked up in a trade from the Houston Astros just before Wednesday's non-waiver trade deadline.

The injury-riddled Maxwell is hitting .241 with two homers and eight RBI in 40 games this season. The 29-year-old was out for nearly two months after suffering a fractured left hand in April and then missed more time due to a mild concussion after diving for a fly ball during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 25.

Getz, who was put on the DL due to a left knee sprain, is hitting .209 with a home run and 14 RBI in 53 games for the Royals this season.
