LATROBE, Pa. – Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer understand rookie Le'Veon Bell is the future of the Pittsburgh Steelers backfield. Redman and Dwyer are hoping the second-round draft pick doesn't become the present too.
But it may already be too late.
Bell showcased his aggressiveness during the team's first padded practice of training camp Monday. Bell took on first-round pick Jarvis Jones in a series of one-on-one battles and more than held his own with the talented outside linebacker.
It was exactly what the Steelers were looking to see from the 21-year-old, who led the Big Ten in rushing last year at Michigan State.
Coach Mike Tomlin says he would prefer a feature back to emerge during training camp and all three players will be given a chance to take hold of the starting job.
