The Winnipeg Jets and restricted free agent defenseman Zach Bogosian on Monday agreed to terms on a new $36 million contract for the next seven years.

"It's a place I wanted to be for a long time. I'm excited to be there for the next seven years," Bogosian said upon announcement of the deal. "I've really embraced Winnipeg both in the room and around town. Charlie Huddy has had a tremendous influence on me."

The 23-year-old totaled five goals and 14 points in 33 games for Winnipeg last season.

Bogosian, who was the third-overall pick by Atlanta in the 2008 draft, has spent his entire five-year NHL career with the Jets/Thrashers franchise, totaling 34 goals and 103 points with 237 penalty minutes in 297 contests.

It's the second large contract the Jets have handed out to one of the club's young stars in less than a week, after forward Blake Wheeler was rewarded with a six-year contract worth $33.6 million this past Friday.
