Russell Knox fired a 59 on Friday at the Boise Open, becoming just the fifth player in Web.com Tour history, and second this season, to accomplish the feat.

Knox, who has split time between the PGA Tour and Web.com Tour this season, went 12-under at Hillcrest Country Club's par-71 layout. He is the clubhouse leader at 14-under 128 through 36 holes.

Two tournaments ago, Will Wilcox shot 59 at Willow Creek Country Club in the final round of the Utah Championship to finish tied for third. He became the first Web.com Tour player since Jason Gore in 2005 to reach golf's magic number.

The other Web.com Tour participants to shoot 59 were Doug Dunakey and Notah Begay III, who both did so during the 1998 season.

Knox began his historic round on the 10th tee and fittingly opened with a birdie before notching four straight pars. He significantly gained momentum from there, playing his next 11 holes at 11-under, with seven birdies and a pair of eagles over that span. The 28-year-old clinched the 59 by parring his final two holes.
